Abstract
This paper deals analytically with the effect of unavoidable initial imperfection in steel or concrete on maximum load carrying capacity of the concrete encased steel long beam-columns subjected to constant axial load and monotonically increasing equal or unequal end moments. As the initial imperfection, the eccentricity of H-shaped steel in a cross section, and sinusoidal mode shape of initial deflection of H-shaped steel and concrete column are taken into consideration in the analysis. Steel ratio, column slenderness ratio, the magnitude of axial compression and end moment ratio are taken as analytical parameters. Several remarkable effects of the imperfections on the maximum load capacity of columns are discussed on the basis of the analytical results.
