Description
Some models based on the lateral inhibition or receptive field were proposed to explain Machbands.Recently,it is reported that Machbands disappear at a step stimulus.The above models are pointed out to inconsistent with this phenomenon.We propose a feature extracting model on the spatial brightness perception with the lateral inhibition and try to explain the disappearance of Machbands.The presented model consists of the following four layers:lateral inhibition,calculation of difference,peak detection and output of the lateral inhibited pattern through only segment of the peak adjacency.As a results,it is shown that not only the disappearance of Machbands but also the irradiation illusion,Craik- O′Brien illusion,etc.are simulated by this model.
