Haw extract (Hawthorn : Crataegus cuneata) was orally administered to WKY and SHRSP, and the effects on urine volume and blood pressure were investigated. The results are follows. (1) The average daily urine volume of WKY administered haw extract increased markedly as compared with the control group. The diuretic effect by haw extract was not affected after anion exchange-treatment but it was remarkably reduced after cation exchange-treatment. (2) The development of hypertension in the SHRSP fed on the diet containing haw extract from 5 weeks of age was not suppressed. On the other hand, in the SHRSP loaded with 1% NaCl solution as drinking water, the clevation of blood pressure was fairly depressed.
