Description

Katherine Mansfield was born in Wellington, New Zealand, on October 14,1888. Katherine entered Queen's College in London with her sisters and was enrolled untill 1906. From that time she aspired to be an author. Her parents were strongly opposed to her desire at first, but they granted her urgent request unwillingly afterwards. Thus she lived in London again and concentrated hard on her way. Bliss is a story of a woman named Bertha Young who thinks herself an absolute happy one. What's her happiness? She has everything as youth, baby, friends, house and garden ...etc, Bertha tells that she and her husband Harry are still in love and they are 'good pals'. She makes up her own happy world without ground and decieves herself. The happy world is a mere day dream and her bliss is a euphoria for there is an unusuall relation between Bertha and her husband. In this chapter I try to point out her illusions. Then in the next chapter I'll penetrate into the secret of Bertha's.
