Description

Based on Oriental medicine that has as many advantages as Western medicine, we produced an acupressure apparatus that stimulates pressure points in the soles. After stimulation of pressure points in the soles using this apparatus, thermography showed an increase in blood flow in specific organs (such as the liver, lungs, bronchi, and the stomach) and an associated increase in the body surface temperature. This apparatus consists of a device that fixes the feet, a piston part that compresses sites of the sole according to the foot size at a desired strength, a piston setting part that allows setting of the piston part at desired sites of stimulation, and a timer for setting of the stimulation time. As the relationship between the stimulation sites and organs, the German sole zone was used. After rest in a room at a constant temperature (22℃) for 1 hour, the soles of the subjects were stimulated using this apparatus. The face temperature increased by 0.3 - 0.5℃ 10 minutes after initiation of stimulation. After 5 minutes, thermography showed a 0.3 - 0.6℃ increase in the body surface temperature near the organ corresponding to the stimulation site, suggesting increased blood flow in that orgn. Such an increase in regionl blood flow activates the parasympathetic nerves, and improvement in the systemic condition associated with improvement in blood flow in the entire body can be expected. In this aging society, this acupressure apparatus may be useful for treatment at home.
