CEA levels in gastric juice obtained from patients with benign gastroduodenal disease and gastric carcinoma were measured using the Roche kit. In benign gastroduodenal diseases, almost all CEA titers in the gastric juice showing MAO of higher than 6 mEq/h were less than 1,200 ng. On the other hand, high CEA titers in the gastric juice with MAO of lower than 6 mEq/h appeared to increase in high incidences. CEA levels of gastric polyp patients were high, while those of gastric carcinoma patients were not always high. CEA titers in gastric juice seemed to depend on the existence of atrophic changes of the gastric mucosa rather than on the existence of gastric malignancies.
