Description

Catalonia (Spain) has recently introduced new regional management scheme to meet the demand for sustainable development. It consists on PTG/P (General/Partial Territorial Plan). By analyzing the PTP maps, the following points have been revealed; 1) It gives priority to pre-modern existent urban areas against mono-functional areas. 2) Pre-modern urban areas, which compose traditional urban system of Catalonia, of any size are respected. 3) The whole territory is expected to be restructured based on the network structure of traditional urban system. 4) The newly developed residential areas are expected to be reorganized respecting the historical settlement center which has been absorbed by the new development. The emergence of alternative planning theory which attempts to inherit local spatial system against modern blue-print planning has been observed in Catalonia PTP.
