Description
This paper describes a rigorous analytic estimation method of BER performance in a communication system with 4 state convolutional code. Firstly, steady state probability density function is calculated as a function of path metrics. Secondly, considering decisions of surviving pathes in Viterbi decoding, upper and lower bounds of BER are estimated by using the probability density function. Repeating the estimation until the two bounds coincide with each other, the BER is obtainded.
