Description
This paper consists of two parts. The first part deals with the investigation of crack pattern of Suleymaniye Mosque. The crack pattern drawings of the main dome are presented here as a brief result of the investigation. The second part covers the Finite Element Analysis of the dome. As a preliminary step, I analyzed the dome alone, applying three-dimensional models composed of 9-node Heterosis shell elements. Structural characteristics of the dome are considered through material and geometrical non-linear analysis in case of dead load. Analytical results show that the maximum strength of the dome becomes 2.45 times of dead load. The crack development is analyzed comparing with the one investigated.
