Description

Potassium and natrium contained in 20 prescriptions (K : 1.0-3.6 mEq/day) mainly used for urinary diseases and other 122 prescriptions (K : 0.3-5.2 mEq/day) of Chinese traditional medicine were analyzed. Potassium in decoctions of Chinese traditional medicine proves to be less than the potassium content (50-150 mEq/day) contained daily diet. Commercially available drugs of Chinese traditional medicine have potassium contents one half to one fifth less than the decoctions prepared at the institute. Potassium content analysis may be useful for the evaluation of prescriptions of Chinese traditional medicine.
