説明
Sequential observations on in vitro lymphocyte transformation in responses to PHA and serum protein levels in cancer patients were assessed. Lymphocyte responses to PHA in cancer patients were significantly lower than those in normal healthy individuals. These findings indicate that cellular immunity as judged by the in vitro proliferative capacity of lymphocytes in response to PHA is impaired in cancer patients. The average levels of serum proteins in cancer patients were not significantly affected by malignant tumor bearing conditions. The IgG, Hp and Cp levels in sera derived from cancer patients were slightly higher than those of control groups and were elevated after surgery. Quantitave abnormalities with increases or decreases in the IgA levels were observed especially in patients with neoplastic lesions of epithelial glandular tissues. These findings suggest that abnormalities in IgA level reflect a specific manifestation of a neoplastic lesion in the epithelial glandular tissue. In addition, correlations between immunological responses and malnourishment conditions in cancer patients are discussed.
