Description

In recent years, many studies on ultrasound measurement of the artery have been performed. However, acoustic properties of blood vessels, which are the bases of the ultrasound measurement, are little known. We measured the velocities of ultrasound, the acoustic impedance and the reflectivities of the aorta at 37 ℃ in rabbits u sing a new technique. The mean values of the velocity, the density and the impedance were 1601 ± 12 m, s,1.0719 ± 0.0004 g/cm[^3[^ a nd 1.716 g/cm[^2]/s,respectively.We measured also the reflectivities under the various hematocrit values of blood. The reflectivity decreased linearly with the hematocrit and showed the lowest value less than 1% around the normal hematocrit.
