Description
I will present some notes to be taken into account when generative grammar is taught to non-linguistically oriented students in the first or second year of university. First, emphasis must be placed on the general properties of science, such as logical thinking and argumentation based on empirical evidence. Second, it must be made clear that language has properties common to nature, such as regularity, reproducibility, and universality. Thus, common properties among human languages must be recognized. Finally, it must be shown that the framework of generative grammar has so far been successful in the study of language along this line.
