Description

We can find traces of target language from the use of the first language of foreign language learners. Even in formal situations, or in conversations before the general public, or in articles or books, can we easily find this phenomenon. Nowadays, some researchers suggest it is a sort of transfer, called "backward transfer" (ref. Cook2003). The study of this field is still in its early stage, so we can hardly find preceding studies in Japan or China. There is even no established Japanese or Chinese equivalent for "backward transfer." Thus this paper attempts to rudimentarily elucidate the Japanese to Chinese backward transfer, which has still not been systematically studied. In this paper, the author names it as "gyakkoukansyou" in Japanese, presents instances of target language (Japanese in this paper) to first language (Chinese) transfer and analyzes what the unnaturalness is. Some results of another survey conducted by the author, such as the ratio of naturalness of some of the instances, are also presented.
