Description
To facilitate the introduction of localization system in inventory management in libraries and warehouses, a simple RFID tag localization system in which we can use existing RFID system is effective. The proposal changes the radiation angle of existing commercial RFID reader antenna of a fixed position and estimates the position of a target RFID tag by applying maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) or fingerprinting to the readability distribution. We evaluate the practicality of the proposal and the achievable localization accuracy with an experiment to find that the proposal can achieve at least 10cm accuracy in 2m span range. It is revealed that stable readability distribution obtained by sufficiently long reading duration like 30 sec, is essential to achieve the accuracy.
