Description
After five years since its appearance, "Turbo-codes" seem to have become the mainstream of the reserch activities in coding theory. The significance of Turbo-codes is not only to show a class of coding schemes achieving low BER over low SNR but also to stimulate the framework and the viewpoint of conventional codeing theory. It will not be so long until Turbo-codes are utiltzed in many applications like deep-space transmission, mobile communication, magnetic recording and so on. In this tutorial paper, we present fundamentals of Turbo-codes and Turbo decoding, applications and bandwidth efficient coding schemes.
