Description

Jaw-movement data of a patient are known to provide a large amount of information on his or her stomatognathic functions. Their clinical utilization, however, has been limited, primarily due to difficulties in both measurement and analysis. Particularly, dependency of data format on its measurement system prevented to develop a general methodology for analyzing jaw movement, and to construct a public data-base. To eliminate such limitation, this paper proposed a general format of jaw-movement data, consisting of a header and trajectories of several jaw points. Any system commercially available can easily convert its data into that with this format. Additionally, we developed a versatile visualization system for data recorded in the proposed format. To realize a wide variety of visualization and high operationality simultaneously, a muti-window technique was utilized, where a number of visualization windows can be activated independently and arbitrarily. This system was verified to possess expected versatility and operationality through experiments using actual jaw-movement data.
