Abstract

This study focuses on the excitation forces of a base that acts at the fixed points of a beam shape structure. Masses, which run along the beam structure, cause vibration of the beam and excitation forces are generated at the fixed points. Since these forces might be a source of noise and vibration problems, predicting them is necessary to avoid such problems. To obtain the trends of the forces, we conducted an experimental test using a rail and a roller and measured the acceleration of the rail surface and the forces at the fixed points of the rail that were caused by contact phenomena between the rail and roller. Our test results revealed that the rail was excited in the broad-band frequency due to the roughness of the rail surface and oscillated the natural vibration modes and also vibrated in the broad-band frequency due to forced excitation. On the other hand, the primary frequency of the forces was the same as the natural frequency of the test equipment. Another result of our test showed that the force level depends on the rail surface's roughness and the roller's mass. Using the result, we will predict the excitation forces at the rail caused by the moving roller in the future.
