Description

The process of brief therapy is viewed as one in which a therapist helps a client distract from a problem to a solution. This paper describes how the solution-focused approach contributed to the development of a therapeutic distraction model. The relevance between the therapeutic ideas of de Shazer and the distraction model is discussed from five viewpoints. Further the Enyuu model, derived from Buddhism as a further development of the distraction model, is presented. The new model emphasizes creating a dissolving context rather than a solution one, and Enyuu's idea that a problem and a solution (non-problem) might coexist in harmony such as Yin and Yang in Taoism is introduced.
