Description

In this study, the effect of polysaccharide produced by Bacillus natto or alcohol extract of yeast on the lipid metabolism of cholesterol fed rats were examined. 1. Levan produced by Bacillus subtilis natto could not decrease the elevation of the serum or liver lipid levels. On the other hand, dietary inulin depressed significantly the elevation of serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels due to dietary cholesterol. 2. The apparent absorption rate of dietary cholesterol was markedly lowered by inulin compared to control group. 3. Alcohol extract of Sporobolomyces ruberrimus or Saccharomyces uvarum were effective for the depression of cholesterol and/or triglyceride levels in the serum of rats fed a hypercholesterolemic diet.
