Description
This paper describes the development of water cooling system of power converter for Shinkansen high-speed train. Generally, HFC (Hydro Fluoro-Carbon) is used as the cooling medium. According to Kyoto-protocol COP3 in 1997, however, there is the possibility that HFC will be restricted in the near future. Therefore, we have developed the new cooling system of power converter using water instead of HFC as cooling medium. The experimental equipment with the new system was tested in the field at series 700 Shinkansen train. The results proved that the new system reached practical use level.
