Description

Recently, peer-to-peer network is in the limelight for every user and every appliance to be involved. Peer-to-peer Universal Computing Consortium (PUCC) was established in 2005 to develop a peer-to-peer networking platform for realizing applications in ubiquitous networking environment, which includes home appliance applications. In this paper, the design and implementation of a printing protocol over the PUCC platform is presented for controlling printers from mobile phones. The prototype implementation consists of a gateway to connect a mobile phone with a printer, proxies to serve as P2P nodes for a printer, a content/rendering sever, a mobile phone, a printer and a proxy manager. Our prototype system uses UPnP as the interface and protocol for a printer. Printing functions such as direct printing from mobile phones and reference printing from content servers are realized by the proposed printing protocol over the PUCC platform.
