Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has performed damage and life evaluations of hot section components in industrial gas turbines of 1MW (model SB5) through 16MW (model SB60). The evaluated hot section components are combustion liners, transition casings, turbine nozzles and turbine blades. The damage of the components such as thermal fatigue cracking, wear, microstructural degradation, coating cracking and environmental attack are outlined, which MES has extensively surveyed through numerous field experiences. The MES's methodologies for the life evaluation are based on the assessment of periodic inspection results, metallurgical analysis, mechanical testing, material degradation studies and structural analysis.
