Description

A video codec based on a general purpose DSP,μPD77016,is present ed.μPD77016 is a 16-bit programmable DSP,which has a register arch itecture with eight general purpose registers,and achieves 33 MIPS operational performance.The DSP supports trinomial operations and a parallel coding,which allows to execute one operation instruction and two load, store instructions at the same time. These features effectively improve DSP's performance.μPD77016 is a pplied to MPEG1 video coding.I-picture type coding,fast DCT algorithm,and band cut techniques are introduced,to simplify the coding algorithm.Due to these techniques,cooperative two μPD77016s attain 320×240(pels)×15(frames/sec) or 160×120(pels)×30(frames /sec) video coding.
