Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the fatigue strength of a T800H/PMR-15 carbon/polyimide composite material at room and high temperatures. Using open-hole specimens of a laminate with a quasi-isotropic stacking sequence, 32 plies [+45°/0°/-45°/90°]4S, axial fatigue tests were conducted at room temperature and 260℃. The stress ratios (R = minimum stress/maximum stress) were 0.1 (tension-tension), 10 (compression-compression), and -1 (fully reversed). Fatigue tests provided the results of S-N relationships at room temperature and 260℃, and fatigue failure modes. This study discusses the effect of temperature on fatigue strength, the coefficient of variation of fatigue strength as an index of fatigue scatter, and fatigue failure modes.
