Bone fractures have risen to be second ranked cause of being bedridden among the elderly. This research carried out interviews and case studies of twenty-five such parients, and their fmailies, who had suffered from a fracture of the femoral neck, the most common type of fracture caused by falls in the elderly, and assessed what effects such injuries had on their lifestyle. It was shown that 23 of the 25 patients suffered a decrease in mobility after the fracture, and that the number patients requiring care increased from 5 to 22. Furthermore, with respect to accmodation qiarters, the number able to live at home decreased from 23 to 13. In contrast to younger patients, various hardships were experienced, brought about by factors requiring a reorganization of their lifestyle, such as loss of confidence and purpose, the need to receive care, the effect on recreational activities, etc. In addition, the extent of the mental and financial strain for the families caused by lack of confidence in providing care, stress, concerns about recurrence of the injury, were highlighted, Mental and financial strain caused by lack of confidence in providing care, stress, and concern about recurrence of the injury affected the daily life of the families. In addition to the problems caused for elderly people by such injuries which occur easily but are difficult to treat, the accumulation and long-term problems they subsequently place on life as a whole, not only on the individual, but also on the families, with the associated problems of anxiety, cooperation in caring, conversion of living quarters, etc.
