Description

In order to find out any possibility of shortening the resting period of immature tubers by chemical treatments, some experiments were undertaken during the period of 1929-31, with the following results : So far as the germination of the tubers are concerned, those that were treated with 3 per cent ethylene chlorhydrin dipping method with cut seed gave best result. The response of the tubers either to thiourea (2 per cent for 1 hour) or sodium thiocyanates (1 per cent for 1 hour) were somewhat less prompt and less complete than the chemical above mentioned. Those tubers treated after they were stored for 20 or 30 days after their digging made prompt germination especially this was true in the case of the tubers harvested in their less immature stage.
