Description
The mechanical properties of metallic materials can be changed by controlling the size, shapes, etcetera, of the crystal grain of materials. In this study, the grain refinement of A6061 aluminum alloy by adding titanium and zirconium to a 0.15 mass % each was investigated. The grain size of this alloy were changed in proportion to the additive quantities of titanium and zirconium. In the same way, the Vickers hardness number and tensile strength of this alloy were improved by the addition of these elements. This result shows that the changes of these properties of A6061 alloy are similar to the relation of the Hall-Petch equation.
