Description
NASA is now trying to utilize COTS(Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) items for non mission and safety critical units on the Space Station to reduce cost. One of them is Portable Computer system (PCS). COTS has a merit of utilizing current advanced technology and realizing cheap cost, but a demerit of short life cycle, non one-by-one QC, low radiation and launch environment hardened control compared with other space components. NASDA is developing System Laptop Terminal (SLT) to control JEM system, and to offer human computer interface to astronauts. SLT hardware will be purchased as the PCS which is developed by NASA because SLT is expected to be operationally common, to reduce training time and to provide common logistics capability with NASA and the other international partners. Concerning to software, NASDA develops the software on SLT. This paper describes hardware and software development status of SLT.
