Description
We report a64-year-old woman who was scheduled for dental treatment under general anesthesia. The patient hadbeen diagnosed as schizophrenic17 years earlier and had received many antipsychotic agents(olanzapine, amantadine, etc)until the day before surgery. General anesthesia was mainly induced and maintained with propofol using the target-controlled infusion(TCI )technique under bispectral index(BIS )monitoring. Evaluating the relationship between the blood concentration of propofol and the value of BIS, the standard maintenance concentration of propofol was set at a low value(range1.6-1.9μg/ml). As a result, there were no complications perioperatively. The use ofTCI combined with BIS monitoring is supposed to be useful and safe for general anesthesia of schizophrenic patients.
