Abstract

A current topic in early childhood education is childcare quality. In this paper the author introduces a workshop study with the childcare staff of Seiyo City, Ehime. The workshop focused on lessons presented in the Japanese children's book Ganpi-san's Toy Boat and how these lessons can be applied to the nursery and kindergarten classrooms in order to raise the quality of education. Furthermore, the workshop stressed that quality education includes: 1) communication with parents regarding their child's development, 2) creation of a positive environment where children can enjoy learning, and 3) acceptance of each child for who they are, no matter their abilities.
