Description
The purpose of this study was to estimate the polishing effect of experimental diatomite-based abrasive to the denture acrylic resin. Diatomite powder from gelled alginate impression material was added into the inlay waxes as a shining abrasive. Circular acrylic resin plates (φ25mm × 3mm) were prepared and polished using them. After polishing for 30 seconds, surface glossy and roughness of specimens was measured. A wax bur without the diatomite, with reagent-grade diatomite and commercial polishing agent were also investigated. Obtained data suggested that the diatomite obtained from alginate impression material was useful as a polishing agent for denture base resin.
