Description
We have been developing a system, termed C-mail, that utilizes the form of comics to represent electronic mail (E-mail) communications. The C-mail system relies heavily on a novel technique for combining multiple E-mail documents based primarily on their quotation relationships. As for comic rendition, we have borrowed a number of techniques invented for Comic Chat(D.Kurlander, et al.: 1996), which generates comics to depict on-line graphical chats. C-mail can be viewed not only as an enhanced Internet communication environment compared with the conventional E-mail, but also a sort of information visualizer, because of its capability for converting documents into 2D graphics. This paper first provides overview of C-mail, differentiating the concept from Comic Chat. Then, the architecture, functionality, and implementation aspects of the current C-mail system are briefly described. A simple example is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the system. Further potential of C-mail is also discussed.
