Description
An approximate analytical method is developed for estimating the stochastic response distribution of a hysteretic system subjected to white noise excitation. The method consists of the equivalent nonlinearization technique, the moment equations approach and the use of the Gaussian sum approximation. The terms representing the hysteresis is replaced with tractable polynomials up to the third order. The non-Gaussian probability for the response distribution is expressed in terms of the weighted sum of Gaussian probability densities and employed for determining the equivalent coefficients. Transient rms responses and stationary probability densities of the responses are calculated and compared with the Monte Carlo simulation results.
