Description

The van der Pol oscillator shows a highly nonlinear oscillation called a relaxation oscillation in the limit of large parameter and the sinusoidally-forced relaxation oscillator shows various patterns of phase-locked oscillations and non-locked (quasi-periodic) ones. This report analyzes the noise effects on the phase-locked oscillations and the bifurcations by which various phase-locked oscillations are produced. The van der Pol oscillator is piecewisely linearized and a stochastic kernel is defined as a natural extension of a Poincare map of the deterministic (noiseless) forced oscillator. Stochastic phase lockings are analyzed from a viewpoint of density evolutions by an operator defined by the stochastic kernel.
