Description

Dental CAD, CAM for crowns and dentures has been advancing,in order to reduce time-consuming manufacturing procedures. Accordingly, inherent kinetic-manipulation of teeth, such as occlusion of opposing teeth,is also necessitated in computer. This paper then presents a technique to occlude opposing shape-data automatically. To simplify this operation into an optimization problem,we developed a functional evaluating the closeness between two surfaces, employing the distance map. This also includes a term accessing the overlapping of both shapes and a parameter determining noticed surface-regions.Experiments employing data of opposing first molars verified that the occlusion can be achieved by exploring the position and orientation to maximize the functional, with gradually reducing the parameter.
