Description
An experiment on spur gear noise caused by its assembly errors and manufacturing errors has been conducted by a small-scale model gear transmission system. For design errors in gear transmission system, there are two types of error; manufacturing errors and assembly errors. Though lots of researches have studied on gear noise, the effect of assembly errors on gear noise has not been clarified quantitatively. With regard to manufacturing errors, there have been appeared several articles about the effect of tooth profile errors, in which they have strongest effect on gear noise in manufacturing errors. In addition, as it is almost impossible to avoid the errors in gear assembly process, the assembly errors and tooth profile errors may exist on a gear transmission system at the same time. In this paper, the effect of mesh angle and center distance as assembly errors and tooth profile error on gear noise was studied quantitatively. As a result, the mesh angle affected mainly 1st and 2nd mesh frequencies on gear noise, and the center distance affected 2nd and 3rd mesh frequencies.
