Description
The anomalous photovoltaic effect in ZnS crystals with stacking faults was studied by means of a device with no contacting electrodes. All the specimens showed a very large photovoltaic response at 340 mμ, the photovoltage being negative according to the ordinary definition. The product of the open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current through the crystal under 340 mμ illumination was of the same order of magnitude with all the crystals examined. No specimen bore the rectifying character. Etch treatments gave no influence on the photovoltaic response. No correlation was observed between the brightness of E.L. or fluorescence and the magnitude of either photovoltage or photocurrent under 340 mμ illumination.
