Description

In a DC-DC converter with a high convertoin ratio, not only a duty-ratio control but also a power transformer with a large turns-ratio are utilized in practice. A large turns-ratio transformer has a large leakage-inductance and then it causes harmful stress and loss for switches in the converter. To remedy this drawback, an active-clamp circuit which absorbs the surge energy is useful. However, a design procedure for this active-clamp circuit has not been made clear before. This paper reports the stability analysis of an active-clamp DC-DC converter with a large turns-ratio transformer, considering the effect of a clamp capacitor. Furthermore, the experimental confirmation is also shown.
