Description
In WDM(wavelength-division multiplexing) transmission, the channel spacing is limited by the crosstalk from the adjacent signals. In this paper, the effect of this crosstalk (linear crosstalk) derived from imperfect characteristics of the demultiplexer is evaluated experimentally. And we propose a novel WDM transmission technique combined with PDM(polarization-division multiplexing) which reduces the linear crosstalk. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this technique by the experiment of 10-Gbit, s 4-channel WDM transmission over 340 km with 0.5-nm channel spacing using Lorentzian optical bandpass filter with 0.5-nm FWHM.
