Residual bacteria in the prepared dentin can lead to secondary caries or damage to the pulp. In this study, an experimental tooth conditioner containing the antibacterial monomer MDPB at 5% was prepared and its antibacterial effects against oral bacteria were evaluated. The experimental conditioner was found to show antibacterial activity against caries-related and endodontically pathogenic bacteria by the agar-diffusion tests. The results of bactericidal activity tests using S. mutans-infected model demonstrated that the MDPB-containing conditioner was effective to eradicate the bacteria in dentin.
