Description

The purpose of this paper illustrates the viewpoints how to advance basic research in clinical psychology. Tsunekazu NISHIOKA, the master shrine carpenter, pointed out each tree is uniquely different. So he thought that carpenters should learn from trees and woods, and practice our own skill in order to meet the uniqueness of the wood's character. When the suggestion was applied to clinical psychology, we can get two keys for advancing research. "Learning from trees" intends that researchers should respect subjects and learn from them. Especially it is important to focus on what support the subject's life. And "practicing skill" means that it is useful to examine therapeutic technique. Two studies based on these viewpoints were presented as examples.
