Effects of Sb or Sn Addition on Precipitation of the High-<I>T</I><SUB>c</SUB> Superconducting Phase from Rapidly Quenched Bi–Pb–Ca–Sr–Cu–O Glasses

High-Tc superconductors were prepared from rapidly quenched Bi1.6Pb0.4M0.1Ca2Sr2Cu3Ox (M=Sb or Sn) glasses. It was found that the addition of Sb or Sn gave the different effects on the precipitation of the 110 K phase from the glasses. The Sb added samples, the crystallized phases of which were mainly composed of the 110 K phase, showed the Tc value of 103 K and the Jc value of 300 A/cm2 (at 77 K). On the other hand, Sn added samples exhibited both higher Tc (110 K) and Jc (3000 A/cm2 at 77 K) in spite of the smaller volume fraction of the 110 K phase.
