Description
How children play is dependent upon the environment and materials made available by kindergartens. It is hypothesized that how children grow and develop is intricately related to how they play: different human environments and kindergarten materials produce varying results. In the case of Seigakuin Midori Kindergarten, the natural surroundings in which children play provide them with an opportunity to develop freely. Spontaneous play in a natural environment promotes the development and growth of children, particularly in the area of physical exercise and sports. This research verifies the notion that sports ability is improved in kindergarten children in such an environment, as compared with when they first entered kindergarten. This is the first of a series of reports on the data gathered on the progression of sports ability in kindergarten children.
