Description
Dimethoxyethane (DME) selectively solvates a lithium cation. In an electrolyte containing DME, solvation state of a lithium cation depends on the amount of DME. We studied the effect of solvation state in an electrolyte on lithium secondary cell performance. Solvation state of a lithium cation in each electrolyte was identified by a series of NMR measurements. Electrolyte with 20 vol.% DME provides the best cell performance. In this electrolyte, most of lithium cations are solvated only by DME.
