Description

Effects of TFP (2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro propionic acid-sodium salt) on purple nutsedge (Cyperusrotundus L. ) were investigated in field and greenhouse studies. The results were obtained as follows: l) Repeated foliage treatment of TFP over a period of three years resulted in significant reductions in shoots and tuber-bulb numbers at 10kg (a.i.) or 5+5kg (a.i.)/ha but did not eradicate tuber-bulbs. Repeated applications of TFP were evidently better in term of shoots killed than single application of the same rate. 2) Foliage treatment of TFP (2kg/ha) and DPA (2〜6kg/ha) mixture were relatively ineffective to inhibit shoots emergence and development of tuber-bulbs. 3) Beause of herbicide leaching, preemergence soil incorporation at 10 kg and 15 kg/ha 0L TFP were ineffective for continued suppression above two months. 4) Tuber-bulbs formed at I ppmw to 25 ppmw of TFP concentrations. No shoot emergence and no inflorescence formation were observed at 50 ppmw and above 3 ppmw concentrations respectively in greenhouse test.
