Description
The ignition point of Japanese charcoal was studied by writers.
1. The ignition point of charcoal is affected by the sorts of timber, degrees of carbonization and method of charcoal making.
2. In Japan, the methods of charcoal making are divided into 2 sorts, one is so-called Shirozumi method (white charcoal making), other Kurozumi method (black charcoal making). Shirozumi (white charcoal), carbonized on high temperature, shows high alkality and contains little valatile matter. But, Kurozumi, carbonized on low temperature, shows low alkality and contains much valatile matter. The ignition point of the former Kurozumi is generally lower than the latter.
3. The ignition point of Kurozumi, carbonized on high temperature rises up, when it is washed with water or dilute HCI solution. But the ignition point of Kurozumi, carbonized on low temperature hardly rises up, if it is treated in the same manner.
4. The ignition point of outer part of Shirozumi (white charcoal) is lower than that of its middle part. The reason of this phenomenon is due to it's alkality. Generally, the alkarity of outer part of Shirozumi is higher than that of its middle part.
