Description
The running tests of the MLX01 vehicles began in April 1997 on the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line. The vehicle attained world records 552km/h of traveling speed, and now the repetition tests of 500km/h running are being performed. Concerning the high-speed characteristics of the MLX01 vehicles, many important data have been acquired from vehicle running tests under several conditions, such as of the open-air guideway sections, tunnel sections, and two trains passing each other. In this paper, the aerodynamic characteristics are described, such as of the fundamental behavior in the open-air guideway sections and tunnel sections, two types of nose shapes of the head cars, and the behavior of two trains passing each other at high speeds.
