Description

WIDE/PhoneShell and WIDE/PCS which are discussed in this paper, are designed for computer network managers who are not always tied up to their computer terminals. Under the WIDE/PhoneShell environment, network managers are able to access their computer networks without, using traditional character terminals. WIDE/PCS is the interface between e-mail system and pagers. Using WIDE/PCS, network managers are able to find out the system malfunctions without watching their CRT display. This time, experimental bi-directional paging system was introduced. Users of the system can edit their messages on palm top computers (PDA), then the computers generate DTMF sequence from the messages to drive pagers. This system is named WIDE/PCS Mini. WIDE/PCS Mini enables network managers to answer the message from other managers or computers via pagers.
