Description

A palm-sized keyboard that enables users to input compound syllables of frequent occurrence with single motion has been developed and evaluated. To overcome several difficulties in learning new key sequences and in maintaining typing speed average, the key arrangement on this study has been determined to improve input efficiency by reducing key buttons, key zone setting and key assignments in accordane with Japanese syllabic system. The size of the keyboard is customized to the scale that allows users to grab by one hand and to press keys with the other. This paper shows the design of key arrangement, one-handed typing technique examples and the evaluation results on the test keyboard.
